When it comes to the Citroën Méhari, wheel bearings are straightforward: Since it is based almost entirely on the 2CV sedan, it uses the 2CV’s standard wheel bearings.

Here are the details for the Méhari:

1. Wheel Bearing Type and Dimensions

In the vast majority of Méhari models, the same bearings are installed in the front and rear as in the 2CV6:

  • Dimensions: 35 x 72 x 27 mm
  • Design: Double-row angular contact ball bearing.

2. The exception: Méhari 4x4

A special case is the rare Méhari 4x4 (all-wheel-drive version). Since this model has a completely different rear axle design with its own differential and special steering knuckles, the bearing dimensions and installation differ from the standard version.

 For the standard Méhari (front-wheel drive), however, the standard dimensions apply.

3. Special considerations for Méhari use

Since the Méhari is often used as a recreational or beach car, the wheel bearings are exposed to special stresses here:

  • Sand and salt: These penetrate through defective oil seals (sealing rings) and destroy the bearing within a short time.
  • Parking damage: If the vehicle is left standing in a damp environment for a long time, condensation can collect in the bearing and lead to rust damage.
