washing system for Sonstige-Citroen 2CV6

Return stop (valve) for fuel or windscreen washer fluid. Connection: 6 mm. This valve is a real

improvement for classic vehicles that use a hand pump without a ball valve to deliver water. This ensures that windscreen washer fluid is always available at the spray nozzles. Please note the direction of flow during installation! It also prevents petrol from flowing back in the fuel line (useful for longer periods of inactivity). Please install this valve close to the petrol pump (between the petrol pump and the tank).

Windscreen washer hand pump with hose. Looks like the original. This pump is mounted in the

dashboard. The pump corresponds to the original hand pump as it was mounted in the 2CV6 until the year of construction 1990. Or. No. AZ864-209A. This pump was also installed in the Citroen ID19 until the year of construction 1962 (DM564-9) and the Citroen HY. Please note: The pump has 3 connections: 1x inlet and 2x outlet. For the 2CV with the enclosed T-connector, please bridge 1x (see photo 2 in the shop).

Wiper blade from polished high-grade steel. Suitable for Citroen 2CV, to year of construction 1990

The wiper blade is spring-loaded. Length: 240mm. We let these wiper blades manufacture particularly for 2CV, and they have the original length of only 240mm! Per piece.

Citroën 2CV Windshield Washer System and Windshield Wipers

Depending on the model year and model, the windshield washer system on the Citroën 2CV operates on a simple mechanical principle and is operated entirely by hand.

How the Citroën 2CV Windshield Washer System Works

Until the end of production, the 2CV’s windshield washer system featured a purely manually operated hand pump located in the dashboard. Washer fluid is drawn from the washer fluid reservoir—which is mounted on the engine side of the firewall—pumped through the hand pump, and sprayed onto the windshield via a spray nozzle positioned in the center of the hood.

No electrical connection required

This system requires no electricity, as it operates purely pneumatically or hydraulically using muscle power.

Electric windshield washer fluid pumps were never standard equipment on the 2CV. However, windshield washer fluid reservoirs with electric pumps can be retrofitted. We carry such retrofit kits in our product range, but they are not actually necessary.

Coupling with the windshield wipers

Unlike in modern cars, the spray system is not directly linked to the wiper motor. The driver must therefore press the button and operate the wiper switch at the same time.

Maintenance and Care of the 2CV Windshield Washer System

Since the hoses can harden over the years and clog the pump, it is important to regularly check for leaks and ensure the nozzles are clear.

Tip: If you want to remove the hoses from the windshield washer pump, you should gently warm them up first. Otherwise, the connection fittings on the pump can easily break off.

Common problems with the windshield washer system

  • Hoses: Become porous, detach from the pump, or break off.
  • Clogging: The small nozzles become clogged with limescale or dirt.
  • Leaks: The hand pump draws in air and can no longer suck up water.

Wiper motor on early Citroën 2CV

Early models up to the 09/1962 model year: On these first 2CV models, the windshield wipers were actually driven by the speedometer cable. This meant that the faster you drove, the faster the wipers moved. When the car was stationary, they didn’t work at all unless you cranked them manually.

Checking and replacing the windshield wipers on the 2CV

Of course, the windshield wipers (wiper blades) must also be checked regularly and replaced if necessary. The 2CV initially had rigid, unsprung windshield wipers. These were replaced with sprung windshield wipers as the model evolved. Please make sure to purchase high-quality windshield wipers. With the small wiper surface area, good visibility is always important.

Wiper Arm on the Citroën 2CV

A common problem these days, since even the youngest 2CV is already over 40 years old, is worn-out wiper shafts. In extreme cases, the wiper linkage can get stuck and the wiper motor can burn out.

If you’re wondering why water drips onto the driver’s right knee and the passenger’s left knee when it rains, it’s often not the vent flap’s fault, but rather the worn-out wiper shafts. The water penetrates the interior due to capillary action.

The only solution is to replace the entire wiper shafts. We have new repair kits available in our product range.

How do you replace the wiper arm on the 2CV6 and 2CV4?

To replace it, the upper dashboard trim must be removed. The speedometer housing must be detached, and the air duct to the windshield must also be unscrewed from the window frame.

Then remove the wiper arms from the outside: flip them up, press the spring plate down slightly, and pull the wiper arm upward with a gentle wiggle. Next, use a 21 mm wrench to loosen and unscrew the nuts on the wiper arm.

In the 2CV, unscrew the wiper motor and disconnect the plug. Now the entire windshield wiper assembly can be removed. Replacing the wiper shafts is then self-explanatory. Afterward, of course, reassemble everything.
