All fuel-controlling spare parts from us, are not applicable for fuel with an ethanol content of more than 5%. The warranty is not valid if high ethanol content such as E10 or greater is being used. Damages like swelling, dissolving or decay are a sign of using too much ethanol. Unfortunately, the developers of modern fuel are considering the impact on our cherished properties ever less.

The Evolution of Carburetors in the Citroën 2CV

The carburetor is a central component of the fuel mixture preparation system in the Citroën 2CV and varies significantly depending on the year of manufacture, engine type, model variant, and clutch type. Particularly in classic models such as the 2CValt, the 2CV AZ, the 2CV AZU, or later the 2CV4 and 2CV6, various Solex and, in some cases, Zenith carburetors were used. Precise identification is therefore essential for selecting the correct replacement parts.

Carburetors for early Citroën 2CV models (1949–1954)

Solex 22 ZACI – the first 2CV carburetor

With the market launch of the Citroën 2CV Type A in 1949, as well as the later 2CV AZ models, a Solex-manufactured single-barrel carburetor of the 22 ZACI type was installed. This carburetor is typical of early 2CValt models and forms the basis of the 2CV’s simple, robust fuel supply system.

Solex 26 Carburetor for 425-cc Engines

Solex 26 BCI and 26 IBC

Starting in 1954, the 2CV AZ and 2CV AZU delivery van models were equipped with a 425 cm³ engine. As part of this, the Solex 26 BCI was introduced, which was also used in the AZL and AZLP models starting in 1958.

This was later followed by the further-developed Solex 26 IBC, which was optimized several times over the years. Among other things, the jet size changed from 15.5 mm to 17 mm and then to 19 mm—a detail that is particularly important in today’s carburetor tuning.

Differences between the Solex 28 IBC and 28 CBI

In February 1963, a new 435-cc engine was introduced, initially installed exclusively in the 2CV AZL and AZLP sedans. This engine featured modified cylinder heads and a new intake manifold and required the use of a Solex 28 carburetor.

  • Solex 28 IBC → for vehicles with manual transmission
  • Solex 28 CBI → for vehicles with a centrifugal clutch

Important: If your Citroën 2CV has a centrifugal clutch, a carburetor designed for this system is required.

Zenith Carburetor in the Citroën 2CV AZAM

Zenith 28 IN – an exception in 2CV production

With the introduction of the Citroën 2CV AZAM, a carburetor from another manufacturer was used for the first time: the Zenith 28 IN. However, AZAM models with the Solex 28 IBC also existed at the same time. The use of a Zenith carburetor remained a one-time peculiarity in the entire history of 2CV production.

Carburetors for the Citroën 2CV6 and 2CV4 (602 cm³)

Solex 30 PICS and 32 PICS

The legendary 602-cc engine—often referred to as the “Big Block”—was first introduced in 1963 in the 2CV AZU Fourgonnette. Here, too, Citroën relied on Solex carburetors:

  • 1963–1966: Solex 30 PICS
  • From 1967: Solex 32 PICS

These carburetors are typical of early 2CV6 models and today require precise identification based on model year and variant.

Carburetor variants for 2CV4 and 2CV6 by model year and clutch

With the international success of the Citroën 2CV, the carburetor range became increasingly diverse. Depending on the country of delivery, fuel quality, and emissions regulations, different carburetor variants were used.
