Citroën Dyane Ignition Switch: Development and Technical Features

The development of the ignition lock for the Citroën Dyane, manufactured from 1967 to 1983, is closely linked to the technical evolution of the Citroën 2CV. At the same time, the Dyane stands out due to the earlier integration of anti-theft features directly into the steering column.

Chronological Milestones

  • 1967 – Market launch: The Dyane debuted with a more modern system than the early 2CV models. While the 2CV still had separate ignition and start buttons, the Dyane featured a combined ignition-start lock from the very beginning.
  • October 1969 – Technical Change: Starting in October 1969, a revised ignition lock model was introduced, which became the standard for the following years.
  • December 1972 – Integration of the starter: Starting in December 1972, the starting mechanism was fully integrated into the steering and ignition lock, further simplifying operation.
  • From 1978/1980 – Late Variants: For the late models of the Dyane and the Acadiane—the van variant produced starting in 1978—there were minor changes to the key blanks and lock cylinders.

Citroën Dyane Ignition Lock: Technical Features

  • Steering column lock integration: The Dyane’s ignition lock primarily functions as a steering column lock. It mechanically locks the steering column and electrically controls the ignition and the starter motor.
  • Model-specific component: Unlike many other shared parts between the 2CV and Dyane, the Dyane’s ignition lock unit is model-specific. Due to the different steering column design, a standard 2CV steering lock does not fit in a Dyane.
  • Manufacturer: The original equipment was supplied by the French specialists Neiman or Vachette.
  • Connections: The most common variants use a 3-pin contact switch with straight plugs.
  • Ignition Key Blanks: We carry various ignition key blanks for the Citroën Dyane in our product range.
