main brake cylinder for Alle 2CV6

Brake repair set small, if inadvertently DOT (incorrect) brake fluid used, instead of LHM

(correct). This set consists of all necessary rubbers + new brake calipers, master brake cylinder (Proprietary brand) + 2x wheel brake cylinders (ATE . For Citroen 2CV6 (with disc brake), if inadvertently normal brake fluid DOT were filled in. Note: Still much work, but the brake calipers, master brake cylinder and wheel brake cylinder are new parts!

Brake fluid reservoir with locking cap, for the brake system DOT. Suitable for Citroen 2CV with

front drum brake. Diameter: 57mm. Reservoir height with locking cap: 97mm. Threaded connection on the master brake cylinder: M16 x 1,5. Made in Spain.

Brake fluid reservoir with locking cap, for the brake system LHM. Suitable for Citroen 2CV6 with

front disk brake system. The reservoir is green dyed and has a white cap. The connection on the master brake cylinder is from center to center: 70mm. Or.Nr.: 95554585

Master brake cylinder, brake system DOT. Single circuit brake system. Suitable for Citroen 2CV

AZU, AK, of year of construction 05/1967 to 1973. Hanging brake pedal! Piston diameter: 19,0mm. Brake line connector: 2x 9,0mm (M9). Or. No. AY453-03D + AY453-03E. Note: The master brake cylinders are converted from us on a better base valve (residual stress valve).

Master brake cylinder, brake system DOT. Single circuit brake system. Suitable for Citroen 2CV, of

year of construction 1972 to 1973. For Citroen AMI 6, different years of construction. Dyane, different years of construction. Hanging brake pedal. Piston diameter: 20,64mm. Brake line connector: 1x above M9x1,25. At the front side 1x port M12x1 for a brake hose.

Master brake cylinder, brake system DOT. Dual circuit brake system. Piston diameter: 20,6mm. Brake

line connector: 2x 8,0mm. Suitable for Citroen 2CV, of year of construction 1976 to 9/1981 (vehicles with drum brake in front). Reproduction. Made in Europe.

Master brake cylinder, LHM brake system. Dual circuit brake system. Brand manufacturer! Suitable

for Citroen 2CV6, from year of construction 9/1981 (vehicles with front disc brake). Dyane, ACDY, Mehari. Piston diameter: 17,5mm. Brake line connection: 2x 8,0mm. Attention: Use only LHM hydraulic fluid (coloured green) as brake fluid. Normal brake fluid (DOT4) destroys the brake system within 24 hours (life-threatening). LHM brake parts are marked green! All 2CVs with front disc brakes have only LHM brake fluid!

Citroën 2CV Master Cylinder and Brake System

The Citroën 2CV is equipped with a master cylinder and a brake fluid reservoir.

How the hydraulic brake system works in the Citroën 2CV

The principle of the hydraulic brake is simple: hydraulic fluid remains largely volume-stable even under pressure and is practically incompressible. The master cylinder essentially consists of a tube in which a piston builds up pressure and forces the brake fluid into the brake lines.

The fluid flows through the connected brake lines and hoses to the wheel brake cylinders. These are also cylindrical in design and have pistons at their ends. The resulting pressure pushes the pistons outward.

The pistons press the brake pads against the brake drum. This is how the braking effect is created.

How is the brake released?

When the brake pedal is released, the pressure in the system decreases. The brake fluid does not immediately flow back completely into the master cylinder.

As the back pressure decreases, the pistons in the wheel brake cylinders can retract. The piston seal rubbers assist in this retraction. This pushes the brake fluid back into the master cylinder, and the brake is released again.

Citroën 2CV Brake System: Single-Circuit, Dual-Circuit, Drum and Disc Brakes

The 2CV6 used a single-circuit master cylinder until the 1978 model year. During 1978, the system was converted to a dual-circuit master cylinder.

This dual-circuit brake system was initially combined with front drum brakes. All Citroën 2CVs with front drum brakes use standard DOT4 brake fluid.

In 1981, the switch was made to front disc brakes and a dual-circuit master cylinder. At the same time, the brake system was converted to use the green hydraulic fluid LHM, which was already in use on the Citroën DS, GS, SM, and CX for hydraulic and brake systems.

Important Note Regarding Brake Fluid in the Citroën 2CV

For the Citroën 2CV with front disc brakes, only LHM hydraulic fluid may be used. Standard DOT4 brake fluid will destroy the LHM brake system within 24 hours—after which there will be no brake pressure remaining.

Differences in reservoirs and master cylinders

The brake fluid reservoirs on the master cylinder also differ depending on the brake system configuration:
