The speedometer cable, correctly referred to as the speedometer shaft, connects the transmission of the Citroën 2CV6 to the speedometer.
Over the years, the speedometer cable may break, the square drive may wear out, or the shaft may become stiff. In that case, the speedometer cable must be replaced.
We have the right speedometer cable in stock for all 2CV models. Of course, we also carry speedometer cables for the Citroën Dyane, Ami 6, Ami 8, and Mehari.
We also offer an extended speedometer cable for the Citroën 2CV6. This allows you to adapt dashboards, install different instruments, or implement alternative cockpit solutions. The extended speedometer cable is also compatible with Lomax body conversions based on the 2CV.
Don’t take the tedious route of removing the dashboard; instead, choose the simpler solution.
The speedometer cable is secured at the lower left rear of the transmission with an M7 screw. Loosen this screw and pull the cable upward out of the transmission. No transmission fluid will leak out during this process. Removal is particularly easy if the left fender has been removed.
To disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer, there is easy access via the engine compartment.
The cable is attached to the speedometer with only a cap nut. This nut can usually be loosened by hand without any problems.
When installing the new cable, pay attention to the square section at the end of the cable. It must slide easily into the speedometer.
There is a flat drive on the transmission side. If this does not fit into the transmission immediately, you can rotate the fitting position by gently pushing the vehicle in fourth gear. Don’t forget to secure it to the transmission with the M7 screw afterward.
The trick with the removed battery also works very well for the speedometer lighting if the bulb happens to be defective.
