Citroën Dyane Steering Wheels Compared to the 2CV
Although the Dyane shared the same technical platform as the 2CV, there were both similarities and significant differences in the steering wheels, which were intended to underscore the Dyane’s more modern appeal.
Similarities in base models
In the early years and in the simpler trim levels, there were overlaps:
- Luxe version: The base Dyane (“Luxe” variant) initially used the same, rather simple two-spoke steering wheel that was also installed in the 2CV.
- Acadiane: The van version of the Dyane (Acadiane) had the same functional two-spoke plastic steering wheel as the late 2CV Special models.
Differences between the Citroën Dyane 6 and Confort models
Since the Dyane was positioned as a higher-quality alternative to the 2CV, it often received exclusive or more modern steering wheels:
- Two-spoke design as standard: While the 2CV stuck with very thin metal or Bakelite spokes for a long time, the Dyane featured a more substantial two-spoke steering wheel with a distinctive center hub.
- Quillery steering wheels: In the upscale “Confort” trim, the steering wheel was significantly less plain than on the 2CV. For example, there were variants made of blue-gray Bakelite (Quillery), while the 2CV AZAM used a black model.
- Feel: The Dyane’s steering wheels often had thicker foam padding or upholstery, which made them look more modern compared to the early, thin “Bakelite steering wheels” of the 2CV.
