When the Citroën 2CV was launched in 1949, it featured a 420 mm metal steering wheel that was permanently attached to the steering column. The steering wheel and column thus formed a single unit. These metal steering wheels were initially painted black and later in the color AC 136, a warm gray. We even have these rare versions in stock as new parts.
The 2CV-based light commercial vehicles also changed the color of their steering wheels: starting in August 1954, these were painted in AC 136 instead of AC 132.
In 1961, the steering column was changed for the first time on the 2CV AZAM, so that the steering wheel was now bolted to the steering column. Bakelite steering wheels with two spokes were used. Over the years, these steering wheels were available in various designs and colors.
Citroën matched the steering wheel color to the 2CV’s interior, depending on the country of delivery and equipment level. For example, there are vehicles with a dark blue steering wheel, a matching speedometer, and dark blue dashboard trim.
We offer some of these two-spoke steering wheels, known as “Quillery” steering wheels, in various colors.
In 1978, the foam-padded single-spoke steering wheel was introduced on the Citroën 2CV. Initially, it was available in brown and black. By the 1980s, only the black single-spoke steering wheel was being installed.
However, with the introduction of the 2CV Special as an entry-level model, a black two-spoke steering wheel was once again offered. This two-spoke plastic steering wheel first appeared in 1975 on commercial vehicles such as the AZU and AK 400 and was later also installed in the more affordable 2CV Special models.
We have both the single-spoke steering wheel in black and brown and the later 2-spoke steering wheel (in black and gray) in stock as new parts. Of course, we also carry the appropriate mounting hardware.
For the single-spoke steering wheels, we also offer center caps—that is, steering wheel hub covers—in many different colors.
